Mary Hakken-Phillips joins Tarbell & Brodich, P.A. as an admitted member of the New Hampshire Bar and focuses her practice in real estate law, including commercial and residential transactions, landlord-tenant disputes, collections, and foreclosures. Mary also assists clients with their business needs, including strategic decision-making and entity formations.
Mary earned her J.D. from Michigan State University (MSU) College of Law (2017), M.A. in Political Science from Loyola University of Chicago (2006, summa cum laude), and B.A. from Alma College (2003, summa cum laude).
Before joining Tarbell & Brodich, Mary was a healthcare legal extern at the University of Michigan Health Systemís (UMHS) Compliance Office and a student clinician providing pro bono securities law representation at MSU's Investor Advocacy Clinic.
Prior to her legal practice, Mary cultivated a successful career in Chicago's financial industries. Mary served as an Executive Assistant (EA) to the President & CEO and Secretary to the Board of Directors of a national, FDIC Minority-Owned Depository Institution. Next, Mary provided EA support to a Healthcare Investment Team at Flexpoint Ford, a private equity firm with over $2.3 billion in capital.
Mary holds a lifelong interest in politics and the law. Mary was active in high school student government and awarded for her 1998 Michigan American Legion Auxiliary Girls State participation. During college, Mary interned for United States Senator Kay Bailey-Hutchison, competed on a national award-winning Model United Nations team, wrote a Campaign Finance Reform thesis, interned and became a Legal Assistant for a rural, general practice law firm, and volunteered for a Michigan Circuit Court Judge's re-election campaign. During graduate school, Mary researched a book on gay rights and co-authored a chapter on litigating the ban on same-sex marriage, which was presented at the 2005 American Political Science Association's Annual Meeting. After volunteering with U.S. Presidential campaigns and a Chicago Mayoral campaign, Mary looks forward to participating in New Hampshire's primaries and local politics.
